Golf becomes great when you are a master of your back swing strokes. Without this skill it is going to be very difficult to actually have a good game.

This does not mean that you will not be able to play the game, but a great back swing can take you miles ahead in performance as well as improving your putting skills. Improving your power is not that important as improving your form and distance when you want to work on this area.

Aligning with the ball, the right posture and good shoes would help you to improve your swing. What happens when you have a wrong posture is that you tend to twist at the wrong time. This poses a problem which may not allow you to hold the club properly.

You attempts at making a good back swing can be jeopardized when all these things combine. Your first line of defense is to always ensure you have the right stance, which will allow you to quickly and easily perform the appropriate follow through for your swing.

One of the ways you can correct your posture is to take a snapshot of yourself or ask someone to take a shot. Then compare the proper stance with the exact way that you are standing. In case this option is not feasible take some lessons on how to correct your posture.

Building your skills upon a good set of foundation skills is necessary in order to ensure that you are learning the right skills as you need them. If you have the ability to work with a golf instructor this is going to be the best way since they can be much more honest with you about the flaws in your stance than you will be with yourself.

After rectifying your stance, you need to have a look at problems with your grip. Overextending the grip or holding the club the wrong way can result in a poor backhand right from the start. There is no way possible to have a correct back swing if you do not grip the club appropriately. Physically this can not be done. So the more you try, the more dejected you would feel. A small shift in the position of your hands could completely change the picture.

Before the club leaves the ground, just pull it away from the ball. This is yet another step towards improving your back swing. Players make the mistake of pulling and lifting the club nearly at the same moment. Not only does it jeopardize the game but it results in an off-center hit also. When you pull the club before lifting it, you could notice great improvements in the game instantly. This is definitely not very difficult task to be accomplished. To improve your back swing, there is nothing like making a concerted effort to pull the club before lifting.
